FoxKids Spoilers

  • Iolaus is going to leave the academy to be taken under the wing of his Uncle Flatus, a great hunter. While on a hunt with Flatus, Iolaus transgresses against the goddess Artemis and is turned into a stag. He learns how it feels to be hunted, so that when he finds the Golden Hind trapped in a snare, he frees her. Flatus wounds Iolaus-stag. Hercules appeals to Artemis to restore Iolaus, which she does, but it's up to the Golden Hind to deem Iolaus worthy of saving from death. Thanks to this experience, Iolaus decides to stay in the academy rather than taking off with Uncle Flatus.

Trivia & References

Déjà Vu - A good deal of the deer hunting footage of the deer itself was reused from X:WP "6.06 - The Abyss".
Nod to X:WP - In X:WP "1.24 - Is There a Doctor in the House?", Gabrielle tells a wounded man a story about a king named Libarius who hunted in the sacred forest of Artemis, and was turned into a deer.
Nod to HtLJ and X:WP - Iolaus goes hunting with his uncle who he says taught him how to be a hunter, becoming a nod to the ongoing HtLJ joke that Iolaus knows all of the "old hunter's tricks".
