- Located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, 'Rome' refers to two things:
- A province located in the Lazio region of Italy.
- The capital city of that region (and of Italy itself).
- Founded in 753 BC, Rome is one of the oldest continuously-populated cities in Europe and often is referred to as 'The Eternal City'. In ancient times, it was the capital city of the Roman Empire and is considered to be one of the birthplaces of Western civilization.
