It was an eye-opening first night for The Blue Room’s Danielle and Kevin
A star-studded audience turned out for the opening night of controversial play, The Blue Room, in Auckland - but all eyes were most definitely glued to the stage!
Theatre buffs have been buzzing with excitement over the New Zealand production of the play, which requires sexy stars Kevin Smith and Danielle Cormack to bare all.
The two actors each play five characters who go through a series of erotic encounters and dangerous liaisons.
The play premiered in London last year to sellout audiences - and no doubt many were drawn by the prospect of seeing Hollywood screen siren Nicole Kidman in her naked glory.
For the stars of the New Zealand production, directed by ex-Shortland Street star Oliver Driver, the prospect of disrobing in front of a packed house was made easier by the fact that they have already notched up some steamy scenes together in the Kiwi movie Channelling Baby.
Danielle told Woman’s Day before the show, "I have a basic fear of getting on the stage and I think that it’s absolutely frightening to have to get up there and take off your clothes as well." But after the first night, Danielle’s ecstatic response was, "I’m having so much fun. It’s great."
Fans of mythical TV series Xena and Hercules, in which both Kevin and Danielle starred, haven’t wasted the opportunity to see their screen heroes in the flesh. Before and after performances, fans have been spotted calling out Kevin’s Hercules name "Aries!" and cheering on their favourite stars.
Opening night at the Herald Theatre was a sellout and the season has been extended after almost all the performances were booked solid before opening night.
