References, mentions, and events in Young Hercules that do not support the canon in Young Hercules (Movie Pilot), Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and Xena: Warrior Princess, or are simple editing errors within the Young Hercules episodes. (For support of the canon within Young Hercules, see Continuity, Yay! For support of the canon outside of Young Hercules, see Nod to HtLJ and X:WP.)

HtLJ 4.21 Top God

Young Hercules (Movie Pilot)

  • The number and names of people to retrieve the Golden Fleece are completely different from the heroes mentioned in the HtLJ Episode "2.14 - Once a Hero". The Pilot Movie has Hercules, Iolaus, Jason, Yvenna, Alcestor, Mikos, Liardis, Enyo, Thamus with Captain Attica where the HTLJ episode had Hercules, Iolaus, Jason, Otus, Castor, Artemus, Valerus, Domesticles, and Lycenus.
  • When did Jason and Alcmene meet? In Young Hercules (Movie Pilot), Jason and Hercules seem to be meeting for the first time, but in 1.01 Treasure of Zeus they're close enough that Jason is asking how Alcmene is. To further complicate the timeline, in HtLJ "2.21 - The Wedding of Alcmene" Alcmene says that Jason was the one who brought the news that Amphitryon was dead, even though Amphitryon died when Hercules was a baby and Jason doesn't seem more than a few years older than Herc in Young Hercules (Movie Pilot).

1.01 Treasure of Zeus

  • In all the flashbacks in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Jason has been the King of Corinth - but for most of the series he's still the crown prince. Occasionally in HtLJ, Jason is cited as being the king of Argos as well as the king of Corinth.
  • As Hercules is sneaking out of the academy to go to the cave and Iolaus jumps on him, Hercules seems to "catch" Iolaus for just a moment (putting his arms around Iolaus's legs to make sure he got a good grip) before grabbing Iolaus's arm to flip him.

1.03 What a Crockery

  • Jason and Iolaus both act like they've never seen Ares before ("He's shorter than I thought." "Isn't he though?") even though they both met him in the Young Hercules (Movie Pilot). Also, the last time Jason saw Ares, Ares had just murdered Jason's father and stabbed Jason in the chest while pretending to be Jason's long-lost uncle - you'd think his reaction would be a bit stronger and more violent.

1.05 Girl Trouble

  • Lilith is the second girl cadet in the known history of Cheiron's Academy, however no mention is made in this episode to the first female cadet, Yvenna. Jason even says, "Who ever heard of a girl cadet?"

1.07 Inn Trouble

  • When you see Kora leaving the inn and the camera does a quick 360 degree turn back to Strife, there seems to be some kind of modern structure with a chain-link fence around it in the background. (screencap)

1.08 Keeping Up With the Jasons

  • During the fight at Kora's Inn, Midicus uses trickery to get ahold of the Shiny Shield, and while fighting, Hercules strikes the shield with the Shiny Sword. He appears momentarily stunned, and seems to fight the magnetic pull to wrench the sword away. However, in the Xena episode "1.08 - Prometheus", it is shown that if something forged by Hephaestus strikes something else forged by Hephaestus, the bearer of the striking weapon is turned to ashes.

1.10 Cyrano de Hercules

  • In H:TLJ "3.03 - Love Takes A Holiday", it is assumed that Iolaus had never meet Heph prior to that episode. But, it seems like they're buddies in Young Herc. - Whoosh.org.

1.11 Battle Lines I

  • When Lilith captures Hercules and Iolaus, she tells them that she's going to deliver them to Princess Cyane. But when she presents them to Cyane, she says "The prisoners, my Queen". Considering that Cyane is referred to as "Queen" in both 1.05 Girl Trouble and 1.09 Amazon Grace, calling her "Princess" was probably a mistake that wasn't caught in editing.
  • Hercules is holding onto Lilith's hand to keep her from being pulled into a wall of spikes, but he is quickly losing his grip. The camera shows her hand slipping from his fingers, but whenever it cuts back to Hercules's face, you can see her hand firmly gripping his gauntlet, only to cut back to their hands slipping apart. Hercules is about to lose his grip on Lilith's hand completely when the rope to the trap is cut - as Lilith drops to the ground, released from the trap, you can see once again her hand is firmly wrapped around Herc's gauntlet.

1.12 Battle Lines II

  • Although this is the first episode Hercules "officially" meets Discord, he doesn't seem to realize that he's seen her before - as the Siren in the Young Hercules (Movie Pilot). To be fair, he was drugged at the time and only got a few flickering glances of her, but you'd think that sort of thing would stick with you...

1.21 Lyre, Liar

  • Eurydice is killed by a vine under the control of Bacchus. In the Xena episode "2.04 - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", Xena says that Eurydice was killed when she got in the middle of a war between Xena's army and Bacchus's Bacchae.

1.24 Dad Always Liked Me Best

  • In HtLJ "2.14 - Once A Hero", Castor and Pollux are part of the Argonaut reunion and help Jason retrieve the fleece. Only Pollux tries to claim it as his own.

1.25 Herc's Nemesis

  • Hercules and Nemesis seem to meet each other for the first time in this episode. But in HtLJ "1.07 - Pride Comes Before a Brawl", it's revealed that Hercules kissed Nemesis for the first time when he was ten years old.

1.36 Hind Sight

  • Hercules, Iolaus, and Jason try to help Kora protect Helene, the Golden Hind, from Hunters, despite the HtLJ episode arc, 3.13 "Encounter", 3.14 "When A Man Loves A Woman", 3.15 "Judgement Day", where Hercules encounters Serena, the last Golden Hind, for the very first time, having never had any contact with the species before. "It's kind of a doe." "A deer?" "A female deer?"

1.39 The Skeptic

  • Pythagoras is seen wearing glasses. However, in HtLJ "5.14 - Just Passing Through", Iolaus II holds a pair of curved glass frames to his face and Hercules appears to have never seen such a thing before.

1.42 The Prize

  • Hercules plays the lyre and sings back up music when the cadets do their talent number. In HtLJ, "5.14 - Just Passing Through", Hercules says to Iolaus that one of his biggest regrets in life is never learning how to play a musical instrument.

1.48 Apollo

Young Hercules (Novelization)

  • The number and names of people to retrieve the Golden Fleece are completely different from the heroes mentioned in the HtLJ Episode "2.14 - Once a Hero". The Pilot Movie has Hercules, Iolaus, Jason, Yvenna, Alcestor, Mikos, Liardis, Enyo, Thamus with Captain Attica where the HTLJ episode had Hercules, Iolaus, Jason, Otus, Castor, Artemus, Valerus, Domesticles, and Lycenus.
  • When did Jason and Alcmene meet? In Young Hercules (Novelization), Jason and Hercules seem to be meeting for the first time, but in 1.01 Treasure of Zeus they're close enough that Jason is asking how Alcmene is.

Young Hercules: The Ares Alliance

  • Hercules is taken to the land of Yoruba, a West African kingdom, where they meet Ogun, Ares' counterpart. Although in the HtLJ Episode "5.01 - Faith", it is established that Hercules has never left Greece and Iolaus has never heard of another pantheon other than the Greek Gods. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, you mean that there are other gods out there?" - Iolaus
