  • A cream pie is a type of pie that is filled with some sort of custard or pudding and topped with generous amounts of whipped cream that cover the entire filling. It's a very popular pie in slapstick comedy routines.

Recipe

  • This recipe was found by Ty. There were a few dozen variations on this particular pie, but she wanted to specifically find one using fruit that is native to Greece. In this case, grapes.
  • Yield: Makes one 9" pie.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp. grated lemon rind
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 cups grape juice
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 store-bought or homemade pie shell, 9 inches in diameter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, whipped

Instructions

  • For the pie
    • Combine first 5 ingredients in saucepan.
    • Stir in grape juice and cook, stirring, over low heat until a small amount mounds slightly when dropped from a spoon.
    • Add lemon juice. Cool; chill until very thick.
    • Meanwhile, make and bake pie shell; cool.
    • Spoon chilled grape mixture into pie shell; chill. Top with cream.
  • For the whipped cream
    • Chill your bowl and beaters/whisk for best result.
    • Add heavy cream into a bowl with 1 tbsp sugar and a few drops of vanilla.
    • Whip until it becomes fluffy and cloud-like, then gently spoon it over your chilled pie, spreading it out a bit so it covers the whole pie.
