Ryan Thomas Gosling was born in London, Ontario, Canada, on November 12, 1980. By the age of 8, he was performing as a wedding singer, and at the age of 12 he beat out 17,000 other young hopefuls to land a regular role on the Disney Channel's "Mickey Mouse Club", which saw him teamed with fellow youngsters Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears.

Throughout his teens, he continued to appear regularly on TV, racking up credits on such shows as "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?" and "Goosebumps", and starred for two years on the series "Breaker High". At the age of 17, he was cast in the leading role of "Young Hercules", a show filmed in New Zealand that ran for 50 episodes.

Having made his movie debut in 1997's "Frankenstein and Me", Gosling began to concentrate on serious film, following a role in "Remember the Titans" with the lead in the indie hit "The Believer."

He enjoyed mainstream success with the 2004 romantic drama "The Notebook", and two years later he earned an Oscar nomination for his role in the critically acclaimed "Half Nelson". In 2007, he starred opposite Anthony Hopkins in the courtroom drama "Fracture", and earned a Golden Globe nomination for the offbeat comedy "Lars and the Real Girl".

He earned two more Golden Globe nominations, for "Blue Valentine" and the box-office hit "Crazy, Stupid, Love", and wowed critics and fans alike in the dark thriller "Drive". His star continued to rise with the political drama "The Ides of March", a box-office success that brought yet another Golden Globe nomination.

Upcoming projects include the noir "Gangster Squad", and a reworking of the sci-fi classic "Logan's Run".
