Goat Stew

Appears In: 1.27 - Mommy Dearests

When Lucius returns home to tell his mother of his newest plan to destroy Hercules, she offers him a piping hot bowl of goat stew as a reward.

Recipe

This recipe for a simple goat stew was found on Cooks.com. It contains very simple, very basic ingredients that could have easily been acquired at the local markets at the time, making it possibly more authentic than other recipes with ingredients that would not have been so readily available in Greece.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. goat meat
  • 5 c. potatoes, peeled & cut up in chunks
  • 2 c. carrots, peeled & sliced
  • 1 sm. onion, chopped
  • 5 tbsp. oil
  • 5 tbsp. flour
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Boil meat until tender.
  • Add potatoes, carrots and onions.
  • In a small skillet, use flour and oil to make a roux.
  • When roux is brown, add to meat and vegetables.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.

(Note: For those of you who don't know, a Roux is simply a mixture of equal parts fat and flour that is usually used as a thickener for gravy, other sauces, soups, and stews.)
